new year intentions

it’s 2025 and i’ve not updated this blog for, umm, some months. i kind of had good intentions but they didn’t pan out.

so here’s some other good intentions i have for this year that might not pan out either.

1. run more games

i intend this every year and kind of achieved it in 2024. last year i managed to run In Nomine, The Walking Dead Universe, Root, Mork Borg, Vaesen, Trail of Cthulhu, Exalted Essence, Blades in the Dark and obvs D&D 5e.

i wanted to run more. my attempts to run CBR+PNK, Alien, Vampire: the Masquerade and The One Ring were all thwarted by a cold and cruel world. in fact my attempts to run CBR+PNK were thwarted as recently as last night! (i prepped it as a back up game in case not all my BitD players could make it, but sadly they all did…)

in 2025 i intend to run:

Vampire: the Masquerade 5 for my weekly online game. I’ve a short action scenario in mind, based in Detroit. i may or may not have a soundtrack and playlist set up for it already

Werewolf: the Apocalypse 5 for my weekly face to face game (currently playing Blades in the Dark). this is the first they’re hearing of it, so hi hamzah, vana, joe, emma and ryan. something to look forward to…

Dungeons & Dragons 2024 i just want to give it a try. is that so wrong?

Deathmatch Island who isn’t watching Squid Games at the moment? i love the look and design of the book, and the game itself (based on John Harpers AGON) looks great.

Vaesen, but with the Mythic Carpathia and Mythic Britain and Ireland expansions. i’ve run Vaesen a couple of times before, but only as a Monster of the Week game. it needs an overarching plot line i think, and i would like to have the characters travel across Europe.

Mork Borg, specifically the adventures by Chris Bissette / Loot the Room – The Vermilion Throne, A Waning Light, Treasures of the Troll King and In The Blue light. so far i’ve only run Mork Borg as a filler game when we’ve not had enough players or GMs or whatever.

2. um, i didn’t think this far. kind of wrote the above and forgot about it.

oh yeah, blog more. this blog exists and i should use it. there’s also it’s sister instagram account which is updated slightly more often.

3. buy less games. my shelves are full, my cup runneth over, i’ve run out of space. this year will be the year where i don’t impulsively buy shiny things off the internet.

  1. New D&D 5e rules seem pretty good if you haven’t played that yet. I haven’t either, but I plan on starting it sometime this year.

I’m already in the middle of a game using the older rules so I’ve just been sticking with it for now

    1. Same. I’m deep in a campaign at the moment, level 14 Artificer, and running Blades in the Dark on my other gaming night, so it’ll be later in the year.
The changes look interesting, and I’ve got the 2024 PHB and DMG on my shelf

  2. Just go with the flow. You need more shelves not fewer games. Playing DnD 2024 should not be a guilty pleasure. Finally / think about a campaign of some scope perhaps rather than a series of 3-4 game “tasters”. Perhaps have an overarching campaign that you revisit one week every month and do the varied games in between. That way your players have a theme as well as innovative stuff – hopefully please everyone??!
